The department of Pharmacology a basic medical sciences specialty, primarily deals with imparting knowledge and skills concerning with drug administration to the MBBS students. It is armed with dedicated, committed
and dynamic faculties with immense passion for teaching. Our department
has excellent infrastructure like well-equipped lecture hall with high-quality Audio-Visual aids, demonstration room, library with reference books and journals, clinical and experimental lab, small group teaching rooms, museum with models, charts, noble laureate’s gallery and crude specimens that impart knowledge about the history of medicine and also kindles the interest of the students.
Students are trained by faculties by a multitude of innovative methodologies such as interactive lectures, integrated teaching, small group teaching, self-directed learning, Case scenario/ problem-based learning, google form Quiz, role play, and Pharm-fun events.
In addition to teaching, the faculties are highly collaboratively motivated in contributing towards research.
The department is also involved in rendering its clinical expertise with regard to Drug safety monitoring and reporting with contributions of our faculties in the drug safety committee and pharmacovigilance respectively. Faculties also have to their credit research publications in national and International renowed indexed journal.
The added asset of the department lies in conducting conferences and workshops relevant to the current trends involving nationally acclaimed resource persons, offering tremendous opportunities to pharmacologists in sharing and updating their knowledge.
Vision
- To develop expertise in the field of Pharmacology regarding undergraduate teaching using innovative TL tools to promote Rational prescribing, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmaco-economics, Pharmacogenetics and Research.
- To empower our students and faculty so that they are on par with global standards with regards to their competence, professionalism, evidence-based medicine and as dedicated researchers.

MBBS
- Enriching the Medical students with sound knowledge regarding pharmacological and therapeutic concepts in rationally by providing the clinical format (PBL)and SGT .
- Facilitating the sound Knowledge of students in Rational Prescription of Medicine.
- Training regarding the Audit of the prescription done in clear way under the heading of justification.
Training for District Residential Programme for MD (Pharmacology)
- Training Medical postgraduate students for clinical trials
- Awareness about Pharmacovigilance in various department regarding Causality
- Creating a sound knowledge regarding Pharmacogenetics, Biostatistics, clinical epidemiology and Pharmacotherapeutics by seminars.
- Trained to find out the Drug Utilization Pattern and its protocol writing with special emphasis on Non infectious and Infectious diseases
- Trained to prepare Antibiotic Policy and to identify sensitive & resistant drugs
- To attend the Regular activities like Journal Club, Journal Criticism, Seminar, Discussion, Drug Screening, Protocol writing, GCP & Scientific writing.

The Pharm Fiesta, held on 26.10.2023 was a dynamic and culturally enriched event that took place on Lecture hall 2, Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Pharmacology lab. It featured a wide array of artistic and creative contests, including Rangoli, Ads up, craft work, poetry, orbituary, dumb charades, skit, Painting, Short Film and Models on Pharmacology topics. This celebration provided participants with a unique platform to showcase their talents over Pharmacology. Programme was presided by our respected Dean Dr.Murugesan, Vice Principal, Medical Superindent and other faculty from various departments.
Pharmacology Quiz prelims was conducted on 17.10.2023, from 100 participants we finalized 15 participants for the final round. The Pharmacology Quiz Competition held on 27.10.2023, in Lecture hall 3, which comprised 5 teams- Antibiotic avengers, Capsule crew, Drug designers, Insulin squad and Mighty Morphins. Each team with 3 enthusiastic participants and spanned across 20 intense rounds, was an exhilarating and knowledge-testing event. The event aimed to challenge the participants’ understanding of Pharmacological principles and their ability to apply this knowledge effectively.
Over the course of 20 challenging rounds, participants faced a wide array of questions and scenarios related to Pharmacology. The questions covered various topics, from drug classifications to Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, putting the participants’ knowledge to the test. Certificate for Quiz and prizes for Pharm Fiesta were given by our Dean for the participants.
